Framlingham Tennis Tournament Patron’s Lunch & Tennis

Kate Jackson writes: ‘On Sunday 6th August Framlingham College hosted the Patron’s Lunch ahead of Framlingham Tennis Tournament week. This was held in the prestigious Fowler Pavilion at Framlingham College. Prior to lunch a fun but competitive tennis tournament took place between the Tournament Committee Members and a team of Old Framlinghamians. Unfortunately we were unable to play on the grass courts which were set up on the Back, as it was too wet but the grounds were looking superb ready for the tournament. All the matches were played in good spirit but the Committee team came out on top beating the OFs.

Drinks and a delicious lunch followed, for around 90 guests, including Patrons, Sponsors, Louise North (Principal of the College), as well as Committee Members and Old Framlinghamians.

Speeches were made by Christine Janes MBE (President of the Framlingham Tennis Tournament and former tennis player, French Open Champion and Wimbledon and US Finalist) who gave us all an interesting and comical account on tennis players at Grand Slam Tournaments so far this year. We also heard from Jeremy Scowsill (Chairman) who was delighted to inform us that the Framlingham Tennis Tournament had won the ‘LTA Tennis Award 2023 National Competition of the Year’. This is such an incredible achievement and a huge credit to the Committee team who volunteer each year, as well as, the Groundsmen at Framlingham College.

The OF tennis team would like thank the Society for their financial support on the day, as well as the College for putting on such a great event.’
