A Sporting Tribute at Framlingham College

In a small, poignant ceremony held in the Sports Hall on Saturday 2^nd December, Brigadier Miles Wade CBE (S71-76), paid tribute to his father, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Wade (S45–49), by unveiling a plaque in his honour to recognise the importance that sport at Framlingham had played in his life. The citation on the plaque read ‘A gifted sportsman and athlete who was inspired by and excelled at Framlingham College’.

The Wade family, including brothers Jeremy (S73–78), Julian (S75–80) and sister Melissa, who attended St Felix school, contributed the new electronic sports scoreboard to improve the participants’ and spectators’ experience and to provide up-to-date accuracy during matches.

Peter Wade, whose parents lived in Woodbridge, was evacuated to Canada during WWII, returning in 1945 to begin his English school life at Framlingham at the age of 13.  He represented all the school first teams, won the Suffolk schools tennis championship, and excelled at athletics, where he set the school high jump record. Like his father, Lieutenant Colonel Eric Wade MC, he had a distinguished military career, where sports and fitness played an important part, representing the Army in several sports.

The Wade family were grateful for the opportunity to thank the College for reflecting how, in many ways, Framlingham was the making of him.
