Reunitied Far From Home

Two Britishers, one a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, and the other a Lieutenant in he Navy, met yesterday in New Orleans after not having seen each other for more than a year and a half.

Lt M.A. Metcalf, stationed in New Oreans as a gun trials officer for the British Navy, met his younger brother, Lt Col T.C. Metcalf, who is in command of the British Royal Artillery Unit, now touring the training centers of the United States Army.

The younger brother, who was in the Army Reserve in England before the war started, and who entered active service as a Captain, is known to be one of the most experienced anti-aircraft gunners in the British Army. Prior to making the trip to America, he was instructor for the London defenses, and fought through the blitzes at Coventry, Birmingham, London, Liverpool and many other places.

The unit which he brought over here is composed of 17 officers and 330 enlisted men who demonstrate their methods of training and shooting. The unit has traveled about 9,000 miles to many of the larger Army training centers including West Point.

Lieutenant Metcalf says he has nothing so glamorous to his credit as his brother, except “a few Atlantic convoys, a Murmansk convoy and a tour of duty in north Russia.”

Both brothers were educated at Framlingham College, Suffolk. Another brother is with the Royal Artillery in India and a fourth is in the Home Guard in London. ( These would have been elder brother, Robert W Metcalf (17-21), and another brother, Richard, who did not go to Fram )
