Spectators needed for aspiring Halford Hewitt team on 8th April

The Halford Hewitt represents the pinnacle of inter-school alumni golf, and has been going since the mid-1920s – see www.halfordhewitt.org for more information. It is some time since the OF team has got beyond the first round – in 2007 we went down 1-4 to Sherborne, and in 2008 we went down by the same margin against Glenalmond. In 2009, after losing to Highgate 1 ½ – 3 ½, we had an excellent run in the Plate, beating Westminster 2/1, Bishops Stortford 2 ½ – ½, before losing to Liverpool 0/3 in the quarter final.

David Turnbull, OFGS Hon Sec, reports, "This year we have been drawn against Dulwich in the first round on Thursday, 8th April at 11.30am at Royal St George’s Golf Club, Sandwich. This could be a very difficult match as Dulwich are some 49 places above us in the ranking order. A win for us would mean that we might have to play against Tonbridge, the holders, in the second round – a very tough draw!”

Gavin and David would very much appreciate the support of OF’s (golfers or otherwise). Royal St George’s lies in magnificent countryside and is scheduled to host The Open Championship in 2011. For further information, please check the Events menu item.
