OFGS Spring Meeting – Royal Worlington

The Club’s catering was excellent and we were looked after superbly by the secretary and his staff.  Twenty five members played, including some new faces, some returning after a few years absence, and some of our stronger Halford Hewitt members. It was unfortunate that a number of regulars were unable to make it this year, but most hope to come in 2011 when we shall be returning to Royal Worlington.
The results were as follows:-
Captain’s Prize                       Peter Howard-Dobson                        40 points

Minter Cup (Scratch)             Richard Graves acb                             33

2nd in Div 2                               Colin Wigg                                       37
PM Foursomes (9 holes)

2nd           Norman Porter and John Rutter acb                                  21

At the AGM, following the prize giving, Alaistair Howard-Dobson was unanimously elected captain of the OFGS for the next two years. Congratulations and good luck!

Grafton Morrish Tournament Report – 8th May 2010
The OFGS team played with Brighton College in unpleasantly damp spring weather at Knole Park Golf Club, Sevenoaks, in the South East regional qualifying round on Saturday 8 May.  In spite of a very good score by Michael Spencer and Martin Lamb, the team of Matt Stolls, Charlie Plunkett, Barry Lorkin, David Turnbull, Michael Spencer and Martin Lamb, failed to qualify for the knock out stages .

The format of scratch foursomes, off the back tees on a testing course, is quite a challenge and it is hoped that the OFGS will be able to field a younger and stronger team next year, and thus possibly to repeat the success of qualifying in 2007.
