Unfortunately, our final pair also lost, so there we were in the Plate competition again. It seems that Ampleforth had discovered three recruits who also play in their Halford Hewitt team – yes, ok, we’re always looking for an excuse as to why we lost!
In the Plate, against Watsons, two pairs were all square standing on the last tee. Unfortunately our first pair, Robin Anderton and Barry Lorkin, lost the final hole and our second pair, Michael Spencer and Martin Lamb, halved. Since the third pair had already lost their match, we went out 2½ – ½.
