Battle of the Somme Remembrance – College Chapel

As the Nation remembered the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago, and mourns the dead in the worst battle in British Army history; Framlingham College remembered those 15 students and two staff members from the College who gave up their lives. Students from Framlingham College held a memorial service soon after day break on the 1st July – the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme. The names of the 17 Framlinghamians were read out and a candle was lit in memory of those who gave up their lives that we might have peace and freedom in Europe today. The College Chaplain closed the service with a prayer of thanks for those who gave up their lives for others and a pledge that they will be remembered.

Of the 15 pupils and 2 masters killed during the 141 days of the Battle of the Somme, 2 pupils and a master died on the very first and bloodiest day, along with 19240 others.
