Afternoon Tea to celebrate 40 Years of Girls at the College – 20th May 2017

To mark the occasion, over 40 female OFs and their families came back to enjoy a splendidly old-fashioned tea party complete with mis-matched vintage china to accompany the sandwiches and scones.

Headmaster, Paul Taylor, spoke passionately to the OFs about how much the school has moved on in those 40 years. Back in the 1970’s, lessons for girls included Needlework and Housewifery! Fast-forward 40 years and it has evolved from a boys’ school that took girls, to a truly co-ed school. This was clearly visible at the tea party by the very fact that the Girls’ 1st XI Cricket team were playing on the hallowed ground of the 1st XI pitch previously reserved only for the boys.

The highlight of the day for most of the visitors was a tour of the College accompanied by a current student. Some guests hadn’t been back to school since leaving in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Giggling and reminiscing en-route, they saw a few sights that were familiar and some that had changed beyond recognition.

Despite the obvious differences in the facilities and aesthetics, they found the school still felt the same, had the same values and was in good heart.
