Brigadier Edward Reed Byas MC (1913-1916)

During WW1 served in 1ST Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross on 2 December 1918 “For conspicuous gallantry while leading his platoon in an attack, when he reached his objective and pushing on, consolidated a position on the far side of a village. When daylight came, it was discovered that his platoon was surrounded, but in spite of heavy machine gun fire, he maintained the position. Later, while leading a patrol which suffered severe casualties, he displayed great courage in carrying the wounded to a place of safety.”
