Mr Charles Chilley (1869-1872)

Born in 1856, he was a professional vocalist; one of the Meister Glee Singers. Sir Henry Wood (of Proms fame) wrote of the Meister Glee Singers in his book “My Life of Music (1938)” that “up to this time (1899) no vocal quartet had achieved anything approaching their success, probably because they rehearsed for a whole year before making an appearance in public •. it was not that their voices were so good, but that their diction and ensemble were perfect.”
