- Cause of Death He was a Beaufighter navigator with 248 Squadron, when he was shot down in the sea on 21 August 1942. Taken as a POW, but died in captivity shortly before the end of the war. He was shot by a guard when bartering near the camp fence at Stalag Luft3. He was evacuated west with serious lung and liver wounds and eventually died in hospital of septicaemia and pneumonia.
