Rear Admiral Timothy Christopher Woods CBE (Ziegele 1983-1988)

He has had a distinguished naval career since leaving the College and was promoted to Commodore on 1 May 2015 and served as British Defence attaché in Kyiv until January 2023. He was at the frontline of the UK’s support to the Ukrainian military. In Kyiv he also served as Head of the British Defence Staff in Eastern Europe, commanding all Defence Attaches across Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine at a defining moment in European security.  He was promoted to rear admiral on 16 January 2023, and became Head of the British Defence Staff and Defence Attaché in Washington, D.C. the same month. He leads the UK’s extensive military engagement and partnerships across all branches of the United States military.  He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2023 Birthday Honours.
