Sir Stephen James Murphy (1889-1893)

Born in 1875, he joined the Indian Civil Service in 1898, rising to a District and Sessions Judge, before becoming Legal Secretary to the Indian Government in 1922. By 1928 he had risen to a Puisne (senior) Judge at the High Court in Bombay, where he stayed until he retired in 1935 and was knighted.
