He was a Beaufighter navigator with 248 Squadron, when he was shot down in the sea on 21 August 1942. Taken as a POW, but died in captivity shortly before the end of the war. Buried at Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany.

Prior to joining the RAF in April 1940, he had an eventful time in Norway at the time of the German invation of that country. He managed to successfully escape and became a Flying Officer with 239 Squadron. He was killed on 26 February 1944 returning from a bombing raid over Germany.
