FramSoc Event: ‘Documentaries and Me’ Min Clough and Todd Austin, Bohemia Films

 FramSoc invites you to their next event in the HPT at the College: Documentaries and Me on Wednesday 19th October. £5 for non-members. An illustrated exploration of documentary film-making presented by OF Min Clough and her partner Todd Austin. 

BAFTA award winners Min Clough and her partner Todd Austin will deliver an entertaining and enlightening presentation about their work as documentary TV film makers, with extracts from their highly acclaimed portfolio of films, including, Lager, Mum and Me, directed by Min with Todd as Executive Producer, which won the BAFTA Flaherty Award for Best Documentary. It was also nominated for Best Documentary at the Broadcast Awards. Using highly innovative camera techniques, the film was shot from the perspective of a 12 year old girl, who was able to tell her story in her own words as she lived alongside her alcoholic mother who was attempting to dry out. The critically acclaimed My Life on A Post-It Note for BBC 1 was shortlisted for a Grierson award and nominated for an RTS Education Award and the film The Boy Can’t Help It was winner of Best Documentary at the Mental Health Media Awards and nominated for Best Documentary at the Grierson Awards.

Min and Todd are co-founders of Bohemia Films, which they recently set up after moving back to Suffolk from London in 2014. They have produced films for all the major television channels here in the UK and their output includes many social documentaries including films about alcoholism, egg-donation, early onset Alzheimer’s and adoption. Films also include a full-length feature film on the British Gymnastic team and a 3D cinema film of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake. Bohemia’s latest film, EMI – The Inside Story tells the story of the great British music label, and was broadcast by the BBC in May.

Min went to Brandeston Hall, and then onto Framingham College. After studying Drama and English at Lancaster University she began her career in television on the The Late Show at the BBC. She also worked on Omnibus, Blue Peter, Book Worm, and Tomorrow’s World as part of her work on the BBC’s graduate training course. After finishing her traineeship Min specialised in directing social documentaries for the BBC. With Bohemia films Min and Todd are currently making an up-date of a film first made for BBC 1 following two young men with Tourette Syndrome. We look forward to welcoming you to what will be a fascinating presentation by two of the country’s finest documentary makers.
