Heidelberg Old Framlinghamian Dinner 2024
A note from the organiser and Vice President of the Society of Old Framlinghamians Kim Alexandra Dickel (M97-98):
Six years have passed since German OFs gathered in Germany to celebrate the unbreakable bond brought to us via the life altering time we spent at Framlingham College. This year we finally met again on September 7th in Heidelberg, a backdrop that was carefully chosen as the city celebrated another German-British union. While the Heidelberg castle bathed in a mysterious red glow, fireworks over the Neckar reminisced the arrival of Elizabeth Stuart who received this opulent welcome from her then betrothed elector Friedrich V. in 1613. Over 400 years later German OFs watched proudly knowing that they, too, played a small part in the beautiful tradition of Anglo-German friendships.
With very little interest in German OF reunions in the last years, I was overjoyed to welcome well known and new faces. We started the day with an exclusive and private company tour at tech incubator Ameria at Heidelberg’s newly developed innovation park. We then moved to the more picturesque part of town and met at the Kulturbrauerei where we enjoyed hearty comfort food and a cordial catch up after all these years. At nightfall we watched the castle illuminations near the river before promenading over to Heidelberg’s beautiful old town. Some OFs had excellent local expertise and our celebration lasted well into the early morning hours. Drinking, dancing, laughter and lively conversations made it a night to remember.
On all our behalf I would like to extend my gratitude towards the College and the Society with a special thanks to my co-host Johannes Tröger, past President Chris Essex and current President Nicholas Whitehead, who ensured that financial and hands on help was extended whenever needed. Lastly, I would like to applaud the enthusiasm of our attendees! The high-spirited, humorous and friendly personalities of our Framlingham College alumni always ensure that our reunions are heart-warming occasions. Our unique community founded by the common experience that is Framlingham College remains a source of comfort, inspiration and friendship. I look forward to our next reunion like I look forward to Christmas. See you all there!
