MOREAU LEAVING SCHOLAR

Sam Ponty

2020 - 2023

I joined the College in year 9 from Old Buckenham Hall School, having been awarded The Albert Memorial Scholarship. I was a Weekly boarder in Rendlesham House from the start and got fully involved with all the many clubs, societies and opportunities that were offered throughout my time at the College. This included co-curricular efforts such as DofE, in which I achieved Gold, the Peer mentoring programme, CCF, Framlingham College Rangers, and the biennial expedition, ‘under African skies’ to South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, helping various charities and sanctuaries along the way. I was also selected for the South African exchange programme, and was incredibly fortunate to board at Hilton College, and my memories of such an amazing exchange will be with me forever.

I am also very into my sport, playing cricket and hockey mostly, whilst refereeing various College teams during the rugby season. I took Biology, Chemistry and Economics A-levels, in which I received the grades to allow me to study my lifelong dream of Medicine – and as I write this profile, I’m already at my University. I loved being part of the College’s music department, becoming lead saxophonist in my final year, and playing some amazing pieces as part of Big Band, led by my Housemaster Mr Lavery, including the Summer Concert, Cabaret, and Band Stand on the Beach in Aldeburgh.

Framlingham College has taught all of us the lifelong skills we need to become valued members of society – rising to the challenges facing us, and drawing on the strong friendships we have made, in this uncertain world. It is this bond that I hope Amelia and I will strengthen through events, both virtual and hopefully face to face, through which we can remember our shared time at the College whilst embracing the challenges we face in the future.
