The Halford Hewitt
In the 2003 Halford Hewitt we were drawn against Haileybury who are ranked 30th out of 60 whereas we are near the bottom (59th) but nevertheless we put up a good fight and went down 3½ – 1½.

The team Robin Anderton, Peter Watts, Brian Evans, Michael Spencer, Richard Cullinan, Andrew Towler, Martin Lamb, Gavin Cowell, Richard Graves and Philip Arnold.

In the Plate at Prince’s GC we were drawn against Ampleforth but due to pressure of work our better players were unable to play so we lost 3 –0.

The Grafton Morrish
In the Grafton Morrish qualifying tournament at Knole Park the team Richard Cullinan, Robin Anderton, Andrew Towler, Michael Spencer, Gavin Cowell and Richard Graves failed to qualify.

The Spring Meeting
The Spring Meeting was held at Stowmarket GC and 21 OFs attended. Numbers were low with four of our regulars having problems – Colin Stokes had a slight stroke, John Davies had a problem with his knee, Peter Howard-Dobson had a problem with oysters and Dudley Holland had hip trouble but I am pleased to report that they have all recovered. Two further absentees – John Thurlow as High Sheriff of Suffolk was involved in official duties and John Gooderham as President of Suffolk Farmers had to attend their golf meeting.

We welcomed two new members – Derek Moss who left Fram the same year as I did (1957) and Dudley Wright who was introduced by David Mead. We all had a good day and have booked again for Thursday 20th May 2004.

    The Cyril Gray
The Cyril Gray Tournament, scatch foursomes for the over 50’s held at Worplesdon in June had us drawn against Trent in round 1.

The team Robin Anderton, Michael Spencer, Martin Lamb, Jim Crosbie, John Davies and Barry Lorkin narrowly lost so we entered the plate. We were drawn to play in the afternoon against our old rivals Bishops Stortford and manage to win comfortably 2-1.

Congratulations to John Davies who completed the two rounds and who will be 75 this year. In the semi-finals we faced Watsons, last years winners of the main competition, but we lost gallantly 2½-½
